3Q Week 1 Instructional Strategies

Welcome to week 1 of 3rd quarter!  I wanted to share a SMORE that I put together for our monthly BTNT meeting.  We had a really good discussion about the book, Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites.  20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain
Written by Marcia Tate.

Kindergarten:

First Grade:

Second Grade:

  

RI 2.5 Glossary/ Index/ Table of Contents

Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.

  

2.G.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces.1 Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

Third Grade:

  

RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

 

3.MD.8 Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different area or with the same area and different perimeters.

Week 7 Instructional Strategies (Q2)

As we dive into week 7,  I would like to focus on Independent Reading!  I stumbled across this blogpost from Cult of Pedagogy. (If you haven't visited this site before, you must!  It is awesome!) I would love the hear how you are using independent reading in your classroom.

Week 7 Instructional Strategies

     

RL.K.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.

  

K.MD.1 Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object.

   

1.RL.6 Identify who is telling the story at various points in a text.

    

1.NBT.3 - Compare two two-digit numbers based on the meanings of the tens and ones digits, recording the results of comparisons with the symbols >, <, =

Santa Claus and the Three Bears is a great read aloud and perfect for compare and contrast!

  

2.RL.9 Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures.

  

  

2.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems

     

RL.3.6 Distinguish their own point of view from that of the narrator or those of the characters.

   

3.G.1 Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g. Rhombuses, rectangles, and others.) may share attributes.
