Homework
In second grade, your child should be reading for pleasure each night.  That means a text of their choosing, in a comfy spot.  As a parent, it is best for you to allow them as much choice as possible.

BOOK LIST
 3 Grade
  • Spending some time after they read book talking is great!
  • A book talk is NOT a quiz!
  • Just let them retell their favorite parts and encourage I WONDER thinking.
  • They can make simple connections as well.
  • PLEASE!!!! Don't stop reading with your child! A chapter book 2 grade levels above will help support their budding comprehension skills!

Spelling will be done in our classroom, we will be touching on many different learning styles and the students will have time to interact with many words in a variety of ways in our word work centers.

In math, you second grader will be introduced to many math skills.  At home, you can support these skills by reading our weekly blogpost and trying one of the recommended apps or math sites.

Or try some of these ideas at home:
~ Baking or building together to practice measurement & fractions.
~Collecting, identifying, and counting loose change.  Add in coupon hunting too!
~Support geometry by going on a shape hunt in your house.  Don't forget ~3D shapes like cubes and cones.

Most important, please let your 2nd grader play, have fun, and be a kid!
