Week 1 Instructional Strategies (Q2)

Friends~This week in my leadership training we discussed educating and supporting the whole child.  I wanted to examine this idea a bit more.  This Ted Talk video really zones in on the social development of children.  It really explains the developmental growths at specific ages and how understanding those stages can improve how effective we are in the classroom.

I LOVE this quote! "Teachers, you don't teach a subject, you teach a child." ~Deepa Behushan

Educating the whole child includes the
child's family too!

After I read this above article, I was smiling from ear to ear!  We at Park View do so many of these things without even thinking about it.
1. Positive Phone Calls
2. Emails Home
3. Utilize our translator to help communicate with our parents.
4. Classroom Websites
5. Inviting Parent Volunteers
6. Parent Conferences
7. Free Smiles
I challenge you to choose one that I have not listed above and grow it in your classroom!

We also discussed the 2 Minute Relationship Builder.
For 10 Days you spend 2 minutes a day chosen students to help build relationships.  This idea is so very helpful with your most challenging students.

Week 9 Instructional Strategies

Friends~I came across an article this morning from a site called Motherly.  It really spoke to me and made me reflect on how we speak, question, and guide children.  I also love how the idea a Montessori education alines with many of our Empowerment Strategies.  I wanted to share the article with you. Click the words below!

7 key phrases Montessori teachers use and why we should use them, too!

Some of my Favorite Phrases!
1. I saw you working hard, made a great connection to the idea of growth mindset.  I know many of you are beginning to use growth mindset in your classrooms and I encourage you to begin to praise the hard work more than the product.  The more we do so, the more our students will see that they can accomplish learning through hard work and perseverance.

3. Where can you look for that? Such an easy way to foster independence and self direction in students. Empowering them to drive their own learning.  M-10 Student Engagement

5. In our school...we do what's best for students and teachers!  M-1 Culture of Caring

If you have interest in learning more about Montessori Classrooms check out the video below!
I challenge you to watch the video and think about our Mpowerment Strategies.  It is amazing how many connections can be made with this philosophy of education.
