Welcome to week 1 of 3rd quarter! I wanted to share a SMORE that I put together for our monthly BTNT meeting. We had a really good discussion about the book, Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites. 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain Written by Marcia Tate.
You can watch a video from Marcia below.
You will also find many links in the SMORE that will help you engage the brain during instruction.
Be sure to check out this Spotlight on Strategy link from Discovery ED. This strategy helps students learn to summarize information and analyze it at a deeper level. Click the image to download.
I also made a Google Slide for you to use with your students. It even has a video to go along with how to use it in class. Click the image to make a copy of the file.
I love the ideas in this blog post from The Thinker Builder. It is filled with ideas to easily differentiate your large group.

K.OA.3 Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4
+ 1)
First Grade:

NBT.6 Subtract multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 (positive or zero differences), using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used
Second Grade:
RI 2.5 Glossary/ Index/ Table of Contents
Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.

Welcome Back to Week 9's instructional strategies & ideas. As you prepare for our end of quarter assessments, I thought I would put together some reading intervention strategies that may help support our students. Below you will find lots of tips and blogposts to help you support your students with reading instruction.
